MIDFIELD ace Michael Wardrope can be a major player for promotion-chasing Ardrossan Winton Rovers.

That was the word from manager Stevie Wilson after the former Ayr United ace joined on loan from Kilwinning Rangers until the end of the season.

He made his debut in the goalless draw at home to Maybole in McBookie League One on Saturday.

Wilson was disappointed with the outcome and said: “Fair play to Maybole, we battered them but only drew 2-2 down earlier in the season. We didn’t batter them this time but had chances and didn’t take them. It was just one of those days.”

Of Wardrope, Wilson said: “Michael has senior experience with first team games for Ayr United and is also a local boy. Thanks to the committee for helping us bring him on and thanks to Kilwinning for agreeing the deal. He’s a quality player and is not afraid to make tackles. Hopefully we get promotion but I can’t guarantee it.

“It’s a tough game against Gartcairn on Saturday. We were due there earlier in the season but it was called off. We must go there looking to take three points.”
