BEITH JUNIORS 8

ARDROSSAN WINTON ROVERS 1

AS the scoreline suggests Beith were very comfortable winners of this match.

Winton had the slope advantage on the pristine Bellsdale pitch for the first half but the hosts were soon threatening and keeper Blair Lochhead was in action early, turning a Sean McIlroy effort past the post.

The visiting goalie was in the thick of it in nine minutes when he blocked a Ross McKenzie shot after he was set up by Paul Frize but the young Beith forward fired home the rebound.

McKenzie seized on another opportunity in the box eight minutes later, forcing the ball over the line and bagged his hat-trick when he made space from a Christie pass.

McKenzie showed he can also head the ball when he nodded home a corner-kick at the back post.

Beith added a fifth 20 minutes in when Sean McIlroy forced his way into the box and scored at the second attempt after Lochhead had blocked his initial shot.

Winton bagged a consolation on the hour when ex-Beith defender Andy McGregor headed home a free-kick.

The last 15 minutes saw Beith add another three goals to their tally as they continued to open up the Winton defence.

Stephen Grindlay picked out Gary Fisher on the left wing with a precision kick out and he cut inside then found the bottom corner with a fine shot.

Ex-Winton defender Larry McMahon scored number seven with a great strike when he cut in off the right then despatched a blistering left foot shot from 25 yards to the bottom far corner.

The eighth and final goal came in injury-time when sub Peter Haggarty found the top corner with a left foot shot from 12 yards.

It was an emphatic display suggesting Beith mean business this season.

Kilbirnie Ladeside defeated Dalry Thistle 3-1 away in their opening game.

Ardeer Thistle on Monday defeated Saltcoats Victoria 5-3 on penalties following a 1-1 draw.

Saltcoats Victoria suffered a 9-0 demolition at home to Largs Thistle on Saturday.

RAMPANT Kilwinning Rangers hit the goal trail at their first competitive match at Buffs Park on Saturday.

They hammered Ardeer Thistle 9-0 in what was a clinical display from Chris Strain’s team in the West Regional Sectional League Cup opener.

Ryan Wilson, Chris McGowan and Garry Fleming hit two goals apiece and Alex McWatters, Ben Lewis and Tommy Maitland were also on target.

The home team were in total command of the match with their new signings clearly blending in well with the rest of the squad at the new Kilwinning Sports Club venue.
