DIRRANS ATHLETIC 2

BEITH 0

DOMINANT Dirrans won the memorial event for the third year running at Kilwinning Sports Club on Friday.

Dirrans started the final as the favourites but turn out to be a very scrappy. The first chance came as a free-kick after a foul. he free-kick was taken by Brian Strain which saw his effort come back of the post.

The game was being played in midfield with passing going astray. But Dirrans took the lead through Chris Bennett when he latched on to a through ball from John McLaughlan and fired a low shot past Beith goalie Colin Robertson in 20 minutes.

Dirrans were awarded a penalty when Greg Kean was brought down in the box. Strain’s effort was saved by the Beith goalie in 31 minutes.

The Kilwinning side notched their second through McLaughlan when he was released by Graeme Muir. A quick free-kick out on the left saw McLaughlan cut inside and fired in a low shot which went in off the post in 51 minutes.

Both teams made changes to try something new but again most of the game was in midield. Beith had a couple of long range efforts but was dealt with Dirrans goalie Ross Stewart.

Dirrans also had a couple of half chances through James Bennett and Ryan Mcleod but they held out to win.

Man-of-the match was Darren McIntyre, who was given a bottle of bubbly by Ricky Black.
