Ardrossan Winton Rovers manager Gavin Friels rued his side for conceding late on in the first half as they lost 4-2 to East Kilbride Thistle at the weekend.

The Winton had a two goal lead early on in the West of Scotland Football League Conference C clash thanks to goals from Rhys Devlin and Jason Walker.

It looked as if the hosts would take their two goal lead into the break as the clock ticked towards half-time at Winton Park.

However, Thistle struck just before the break to get right back into the game.

In the second half, buoyed by their late goal the away side notched an equaliser not long after the restart.

Thistle then added a third and fourth late on to seal the win and consign Rovers to their second defeat in a row.

Speaking to the Herald, Friels said: “I would not say we started too great but from the tenth minute onwards we were probably playing the best since I came in as boss.

“We played really well, scored the two goals, were causing them a lot of problems and I would say we had the game almost won.

“Then losing the goal right on the stroke of half time was down to a series of mistakes at the wrong time of the game and it changed the match.

“It allowed them a lifeline when I think they were beat and I think if we went in 2-0 at half-time we would have went onto win the game comfortably.”
