ARDEER Thistle boss Sean Kenney has told his players to enjoy last weekend’s win, but now it’s time to push on.

The Stevenston side finally put an end to a run of seven matches without a win when they defeated Glasgow United 3-1 at the Ardeer Stadium on Saturday.

The win moves them above their opponents in the league standings, though Kenney wasn’t looking to get too caught up in the win, and is already looking ahead to next week.

Speaking to the club’s social media after the game, he said: “I feel sorry for them [the players], we’ve not won for a while and I’m just saying about how important Tuesday is, and Thursday is, and into next Saturday.

“We just need to keep going, we need to keep working hard, we need to keep pushing on.

“We’ve not done anything, we’ve won one game of football. So enjoy it, it’s been a while, but push on next week, we want to go make it two out of two, we want to start a run now.”

In the game itself, Ardeer showed no signs of a team lacking confidence, despite their recent form.

They pushed ahead just after the half hour when Dylan Stevenson fired one beyond the goalkeeper from just outside the box.

The game was almost put beyond Glasgow United right on half time as Marc Wardrope was through on goal.

The midfielder was brought down, and the Glasgow United defender sent off. From the resultant free kick, Stevenson got his second as he slotted the ball under the wall.

Into the second half and Ardeer put in a very professional performance.

They even added a third goal on 70 minutes, when Robert Frew converted a Michael Howie cross.

Glasgow United would get one back almost straight from the restart, but it proved to only be a consolation goal.

After the match, Kenney was delighted by the performance of match winner Stevenson.

He commented: “Man of the match was Dylan, he scored two smashing goals today, that’s why we signed him because we need big performances from players and Dylan’s someone I rely on.”
