Three young North Ayrshire ice skaters are now international medallists after representing Great Britain in Slovenia.

Lewis MacDonald and Isla Forsyth both won gold at the Skate Celje championships, while Nicole Brennan brought home silver from the competition, which was held at the Mestni Park ice rink in the city of Celje.

All three practise their art at the Magnum Figure Skating Club, which is based at the Auchenharvie ice rink in Stevenston.

It was their first time representing Great Britain at the championships, which attracted competitors from all over Europe.

Lewis won gold in the basic novice section for boys, with a score of 38.92 points, while Isla's gold and Nicole's silver both came in the basic novice class for girls, with Nicole scoring 37.47 in section 1 and Isla winning gold with 39.94 in section 3.

The North Ayrshire trio made up three-quarters of all Great Britain's medals at the championships, alongside Arin Yorke, 17, from Shropshire, a former British intermediate novice champion, who won bronze in the junior men's section.

And for one of the Magnum club's Slovenia success stories, the season isn't over yet - with Nicole set to represent the club this weekend at the British Championships in Sheffield.

A spokesperson for the club said: "We wish her loads of luck."

The club is also looking forward to World Ice Skating Day this Sunday, December 3, where they have been selected as on of just four clubs in Britain to offer a free skating session for people in the local community.

The event takes place at the rink from 10.30-11.30am.
