STEVENSTON darts star Robert Thornton emerged victorious in his quest to win the inaugural Senior World Darts Championship.
The event was open to players over 50 who do not currently hold a PDC tour card, and ‘The Thorn’ dominated, dropping only three sets en route to victory.
He defeated Bob Anderson (3-0), Trina Gulliver (3-0), Dave Prins (3-0) and Kevin Painter (4-2) on his route to Sunday's final, where he overcame Martin ‘Wolfy’ Adams 5-1.

The event gained mass publicity as Phil Taylor made his competitive darts comeback for it, but it was not to be for 'The Power' as the Three Towns darts star Thornton walked away with the title, and prize money of £30,000.
