A PUBLIC event to be held at the end of this month will offer Kilbirnie residents the chance to view proposals to redevelop the old Garnock Academy site.

Plans to build 50 new homes on part of the former school land were revealed back in August and North Ayrshire Council is holding a local, in-person consultation on Thursday, October 27.

Local residents will get the chance to view exciting plans for new housing on part of the former Garnock Academy site.

The development will include a mix of general needs houses, amenity bungalows and homes suitable for wheelchair users.

It is hoped that construction can start in spring/summer 2023 on the near-£10 million project which will be supported by a Scottish Government grant.

Scott Davidson, cabinet member for place at North Ayrshire Council, said: “We have made a commitment to deliver 1,625 new homes for our residents and this ambitious development is a key part of those plans.

“The former Garnock Academy site will hold nostalgic memories for many people in the Garnock Valley and it’s great to see the site being given a new lease of life with the creation of more modern, energy-efficient homes.”

The site will provide a mix of two, three, four, five and six-bedroom homes.

The final plans are available to view online until Friday (October 28) here.
