A GREAT Gatsby-themed fund-raiser taking place next week will see revellers dressed to the nines and immersed in the glamorous hedonism of the Roaring Twenties - all in support of a vital local cause.

Lisa McNulty, who owns Saltcoats hair and beauty salon Eden, has organised the charity event at the Seamill Hydro in West Kilbride to collect cash for Alzheimer Scotland.

Friday’s (November 18) fun bash will coincide with the 20th anniversary of Lisa’s business launching, giving cause for more celebration, however, the fund-raiser has a further personal meaning.

Lisa told the Herald: “I wanted to host a charity fund-raiser as my wee mum has vascular dementia. She was diagnosed with cognitive disorder back in 2018 but suffered a stroke during lockdown and a CT scan also showed an aneurysm which has caused my mum to deteriorate rapidly.

“There has been little or no help or support and as we don’t receive benefits and aren’t in a position of wealth I feel stuck, unsure of where to find help or who to contact.

“I’m trying to juggle a full-time career running a business, managing my own life, but looking after my mum has almost sent me mental.

“On a rough day I stumbled across this wonderful local charity and spoke to a woman called Linda Ross and her colleague [at Alzheimer Scotland’s day care centre in Ardrossan].

“She gave up almost two hours of her time with absolutely no benefit to herself and gave me the advice and support in two hours that I hadn’t had in two years.

“I asked her how I never knew of them before and they rely on charity to support their group and in turn support their community.

“Honestly, they have no idea how much I needed that chat and relevant information to help me get help for my mum.”

After a tough time recently, Lisa is hoping the upcoming event can offer some respite for partygoers and much-needed financial support for the Three Towns facility.

She added: “I thought I could use the fact that I’ve got to know a lot of people over the 25 years I’ve had in business and try to do something positive, so I thought of doing this fund-raiser.

"Because of lockdown and the fact we’ve all been stuck in like caged animals with nothing to look forward to I thought of a 1920s Great Gatsby-themed party.

“It was quite fitting with the whole prohibition era and a good excuse to get dressed up and have fun whilst raising money for a good cause.”

The event will take place on Friday, November 18 at the Seamill Hydro in West Kilbride, from 7pm-midnight.

Tickets cost £60 and are on sale now and include: a red carpet welcome and fizz on arrival, photographers, a burlesque beauty to meet and greet guests and pose for photos, burlesque performances, and prize giveaway for an overnight dinner bed and breakfast at the Seamill Hydro.

An amazing modern vintage dance band will also play post-modern jukebox style music to dance the night away, followed by an evening buffet.
